More than 60 boys and girls from across the county tried their hand at rugby at Pershore RFC’s free Junior Fun Day yesterday, Sunday 29 September.

And the event at the club’s riverside grounds in Mill Lane, Wyre Piddle, was a big success, with many of the young players saying that they are keen to come back for more.

From 11am until 1pm children of all ages dropped in to the club and had a go at a range of rugby skills, for free, at hourly workshops led by qualified coaches and a series of mini games were staged to give them a taste of whichever type of rugby took their fancy – traditional rugby union (15-aside or sevens) tag rugby for little ones, or the increasingly popular, non contact, touch rugby.   And the bouncy castles and tug-of-war went down well also, with children and parents alike.

Ben Andrews Chair of Pershore Juniors section said:  “We were blessed with a fabulous sunny day and it was a joy to see so many young people having a go at all types of rugby – from little 5-year-olds, to much bigger 16-year-olds.  We look forward to seeing many of them back again next Sunday for some more fun at training, from 10am – 12 noon.”

Anyone wanting to come and try rugby at Pershore can take advantage of the club’s offer of three free training sessions and for further information they can contact Ben Andrews on 07779 927 852 or e-mail .
