Saturday 17th September: Week 2

It's been another extremely difficult week at 'AEFL HQ' as the increased workload for our officers shows no sign of decreasing!

On the pitch, week 2 has provided the usual feast of entertainment and plenty of goals throughout the League

Under 18's Division

Welford Juniors, after an open date last weekend, got their season off to the perfect start as they travelled to Pershore Town and sealed a convincing 7-1 victory.  Zinzan Hancox showed his scoring prowess with 4-goals, while Kieran Crooke, Eden Sadler-Baker and substitute, Niall Treacy, put the match beyond doubt.

Under 16 Pool A

Evesham United Colts drew 2-2 at home to Westbury Celtic Tigers, with Ben Cole & Kyle McEwan getting the reds goals. Although it's early in the season, both sides will be looking to feature in the title race.

Under 16 Pool B

It was a beautiful sunny morning at Pinvin, as Lenches hosted Nunnery Wood Kestrels. Due to other commitments & injuries, the home side only had 10-players available, but with effort and determination they went to record a 3-0 win with goals from James Elwell, Leo Fleming and Lewis Humphreys.

There was a 10-goal thriller at Pershore Town as the home side drew 5-5 with Bromsgrove Meadows.  Kian Wigley bagged all 5 of the Town goals, taking him to 7-goals from 2 games.

Under 15 Pool A

Meadow Park lost 2-1 at Shipston Excelsior, Joshua Done hitting the net for MP.

Welford Juniors and Tewkesbury Town Colts served up a cracker of a game in an end to end encounter. Welford eventually sealed the match 6-4 with goals from Jacob Robinson (3), Oliver Burdett (2) and Robert Singer.

Newtown Sports Juniors enjoyed their trip over to Welland Junior FC Lions; goals from Nathan Clarke & Nathan Chowns-Higgs making it 2-0 at the final whistle.

West Hagley have had a tough start to life in the AEFL as they lost 3-1 at home to Bidford Juniors.  The 'gold and blacks' Ben Beasley, Tyler Chapman & Stephen Vaughan all on the score-sheet.

Under 15 Pool B

Pershore Town Bullets won 5-1 at Lenches but the game was a lot tighter than the scoreline suggests. an even first half saw Pershore take the lead on 12 minutes with Matt Keyte executing a neat swivel turn in the box to fire home with his left foot inside the far post. Lenches came back in the game with sustained pressure from midfield and – from a corner just before halftime – squared the match when Pershore failed to clear the ball in the six yard box. Early in the second half, Matt Keyte had a great chance to put Pershore ahead but headed against the bar from a corner. Ten minutes later, Pershore did take the lead when the referee awarded a penalty for a push in the back, Harry Jones converting from the spot. Lenches thought they had levelled when a break through the static Pershore defence saw a shot hit the underside of the bar and bounce down on the line – but with neither ref or linesman able to confirm that the ball had crossed the goal-line (and without goal-line technology at the Pinvin venue!), a goal could not be awarded. As Lenches dwelled on the situation, Pershore broke away and Matt Keyte scored his 2nd of the game. Keyte completed his hat-trick, running onto a long ball through the middle and firing home to make it 4-1 to the visitors. A fifth was scored by Josh Waters who found himself unmarked in the box after good work from Alfie Owen on the right wing to give Pershore their first win of the season.

Under 14 Pool A

The Eckington derby between the Juniors and Eagles went the way of Eckington Juniors 6-1, Reuben Pawley got the only Eagles goal.

Ilmington United got their season underway with a narrow 1-0 win at Tewkesbury Town Colts, Fred Barnard's strike the deciding factor in this one.

Welland Junior Lions went down 3-1 at home to Stratford Town Colts in one of the longest journeys of the morning. Herbie Southam got the only goal for the Lions.

Under 14 Pool B

Shipston Excelsior look like they have a strong side this season and their 10-2 away win at Meadow Park made it a 100% record from two games.  Shipston showed they have goal power throughout the side as 5 players got on the score-sheet, the pick of these, Oscar Hair who scored 5 goals, taking him to 7 for the season.

Droitwich Spa Vipers held on for a 3-2 win at Badsey Rangers, Matthew Simms scored two Viper goals.

Bidford Juniors suffered a 6-1 home defeat to Littleton at the Big Meadow, Bidford on Avon. The visitors had the perfect start, scoring on just 45-seconds & increased the lead to 2-0 on 9-minutes.  Bidford's Jake Cannadine then converted a penalty to bring the score back to 1-2, but Littleton increased the lead to 5-1 at the break. The 2nd half was a lot more even and although the visitors scored a 6th, both defences held relatively firm.

Welford Pumas secured all the points at Warndon Villages Dragons, James Chilvers, Oscar Grisenthwaite & Max  Haudebourg got a brace of goals each.

Under 14 Pool C

Welland Junior Colts perfect start to the season continued as they won 5-3 at home to Pershore Town Piranhas.  The Colts scorers were Dominic Houlston (2), Jakub Gryzb, Benjamin Leah &  Dylan Lippett.

Bretforton Juniors lost 4-2 at home to Inkberrow Eagles, Brooklyn Grant & Harry Putnam were the 'Bret-Net' scorers.

Evesham United Colts 5-2 home win against Broadway United Youth was secured with goals from Luke Hulme (2), Reagan Martin (2) and Henry Bell.

Under 13 Pool A

Alcester Town Juniors midweek home game with Ilmington United brought a 6-0 victory, Liam York's hat-trick the 'talk of the Town' but with the Juniors having an 'open' Saturday, it was left to Alcester Town Rangers to get the home fans cheering as they won 2-1 on home turf against Welford Juniors.

Moreton Rangers look like they have assembled a strong squad and their 5-2 home win against Crowle Searchers shows that Rangers will be a difficult team to beat, especially at home. Beau Campbell and two each for William Pulham and Toby Stevens put Rangers in control.

Under 13 Pool B

Droitwich Spa Kestrels and Tewkesbury Town Pumas served up plenty of goal action at Chawson Valley. Brendan Llewelyn scored two for the visitors but a Luke Payne hat-trick for the Kestrels helped them to a 6-2 final score.

Littleton Juniors' Ash Naciri scored 2 but it wasn't enough as Tewkesbury Town Colts took all the points in a 4-3 victory.

Under 12 Pool A

Welland Junior FC won 5-1 at Westbury Celtic Youth, Daniel Chessman's hat-trick the telling contribution in front of goal.

Under 12 Pool B

Droitwich Spa Dragons 1-0 win at home to Inkberrow Eagles was sealed with a Sam Price goal.

Warndon Village Kestrels were another team to win 1-0 as an Aaron Tuberfield goal was the difference against Drakes Broughton Rangers.

The 'battle of the Lions' saw Warndon Village Lions win 4-2 against Broadway United Youth Lions. Two goals from Maxwell Chew helping Warndon to 3-points at Little Perdiswell Sports Ground.

Week 3 will see an incredible 91 matches scheduled for next Saturday, so if your looking to support grassroots football, get down to your nearest venue and give the kids plenty of support.
