A 7-1 win for CMB Sports over Saints

CMB Sports continued their good start to their McDonalds Worcester & District Football League campaign with a resounding 7-1 win against Worcester Saints in the Sunday Division One.

Leigh Allen netted four times with Olly Dyde adding a brace. Droitwich Spa Eagles have also begun well, Alan Parkinson and Josh Farmer both hitting hat-tricks and Tom Blunt netting twice as they crushed Goodrest Juniors 9-2. Meanwhile Powick drew 4-4 with New AFC Barbourne, Stuart Harvey bagging two for Powick, Paul Ashby doing likewise for Barbourne.

Reigning champions WCT Raiders and AFC Heenans already look strong contenders for the Premier Division crown, both recording 8-3 victories. Georeg Martin cracked a hat-trick with Richard Smith and Brad Birch both bagging a brace in their win at Colwall St James. Jamie Insall also grabbed a treble with Joe Haines and Martin Newman adding doubles for WCT who won at New Inn. Malvern Radar thumped Martley Spurs 6-0, Lee Hooper and Olly Lean both scoring twice.

In Division 2 there were two goals each for Mark Wilks of VBL Sports who beat Hornets 5-1 and Stacey Brimmell in Malvern Victoria’s 3-1 win against Malvern Rangers. Goals from Dan Banks, Graham Mann and Gordie Beauchamp gave Claines a 3-1 victory at St Johns.

Highest scorers of the day were Hangover who thrashed Colwall Village 10-0. Kevin Ginger netted four times, Russell White notched a treble and Lee Barmby a double. Richard Price of Hylton Road Rovers scored twice as they beat Powick Reserves 5-0. Graham Jones smashed a hat-trick in Foresters Arms 4-0 success at Alumni.

In Division 4 Chris Grindley, Tom Groves and Rob Giles were on target for Pillar of Salt Korono, 3-1 winners at Droitwich Spa Eagles Reserves. Ben Sheppard and Mike Rowberry both bagged two for The Bell @ St Johns who won 4-3 at WCT Youth Raiders.

The opening matches in the Saturday Division saw Malvern Hills win their local derby at Malvern Vale 6-1, Matt McIntosh hitting a hat-trick. Other trebles came from teenager Brian Lavell of Malvern Town Reserves who won 5-2 at Worcester Anchors and John Murphy in Powick’s 3-1 home win over Arrow 2000. Tom Hobbs and Joe Haines both scored twice as title favourites WCT Raiders triumphed 4-2 at Foregate.
