Deepings Devils Ladies, 04.09.16

Old Leamingtonians Ladies RFC kicked off the new season with an away match against Deepings Devils on September 4th. It was a new encounter, Deepings having come down from the league above this season, but Leams emerged the victors, with a final score of 43 - 5.

Deepings were quick off the mark and lost no time in getting the ball well into OLs 22, with Leams having to work hard to defend 3 scrums on the 5 metre line in the first 10 minutes. They denied Deepings the try, but 10 minutes later a break from their inside centre saw Deepings first on the leaderboard.

Leams were quick to retaliate, Vice Captain and ‘forward of the match’ Carrie Steadman taking the ball over line for the equaliser, assisted by ‘back of the match’ Tash Blunt.

By now Leams were well into their stride, concluding the first half with another try, scored by scrum half Ffion Davies-Cale, in her first match for OLs.

The second half brought a further five tries for OLs, and four conversions for fly-half and try-scorer Sam Smyth. Philippa Rawbone scored her first try for Leams, while Steadman secured her second try of the match. Captain Jen Vermeulen and flanker Jamielee McCreadie both ran the ball over the line to cement OLs’ lead.

Deeping Devils put pressure on in the final minutes, but were held off by Leams, making the final score 43-5.
