Gusty strong winds on Thursday January 1st at Arden Sailing Club, Near Defford.  With the annual Icicle Race followed by a social gathering to celebrate the new year.

With 5 sailors at the club only 2 keen helms took to the water in unfamiliar Comets with an average wind strength of 19mph gusting up to around 27mph.

With a volunteer race officer and Safety boat crew sorted a 4 lap course was set.  Stuart Stephen who rigged the club boat with reef making the sail area slower and David Stephen borrowing another club members boat who didn’t reef the race was underway.

After half a lap David had got a couple of boat lengths in front, but was constantly fighting to keep the boat upright.  On the 2nd lap Stuart did a dry capsize in front of the starters box in plain view of the onlookers, but was back up and sailing in no time.  The overall result was David 1st and Stuart 2nd.
