EVESHAM slipped to second-from-bottom in Birmingham and District League Division One following an 80-run defeat at Dorridge.

Evesham won the toss and inserted the home side. Sam O’Neill accounted for Jonathan Webb (1) with his first ball, but Valeed Butt and David Ball put on 44 before the latter was bowled by Paul Thomas for 23.

Butt (32), Tariq Mohammed (14) and Ian Stevenson (37) took the score to 125-5 with the visitors bowling and fielding well. Kasir Shah and Shane Getkate then advanced the score to 180 before the latter was stumped by Joe Dodd off the bowling of George Rhodes for 24. Tom Bird then took two quick wickets but, with Shah chancing his luck after being dropped, the visitors managed a total of 238 all out with Shah hitting 55. Spinners Rhodes (3-45) and Bird (3-35) were the pick of the bowling for Evesham.

The visitors suffered a setback in their run chase when Tom Kohler-Cadmore was adjudged lbw for four in the first over. Ian Suckling (23) followed after a flurry of boundaries before Matt Snyman and Rhodes put a stand together. Both batsmen looked in good form taking the score to 78 before Snyman (23) and later Rhodes (43) were bowled by the impressive Ball. Only Paul Thomas (30 not out) had an answer to the home side’s bowling and, with Tom Paul (15), put on a late flurry in pursuit of an extra batting point.

But they fell two runs short as Evesham ended on 158 all out. On Saturday, Evesham travel to Walmley (noon start).
