WORCESTER Wanderers, who were beaten finalists in last season’s National Colts Cup competition, face a trip to Leicestershire in the fourth round of this season’s National Colts Plate.

The Plate competition is for sides beaten in rounds one to three of the National Colts Cup and offers a second route to finals day in May.

Worcester Wanderers edged out Silhillians 22-19 in Round 3c of the Plate and will now face either Syston or Market Harborough in a tie that is scheduled to be played on or before February 2.

Moseley, who won the inaugural National Colts Cup in 1998, have also been drawn away in the fourth round of the Plate against either Leighton Buzzard or Paviors. Moseley beat Old Halesonians 24-13 in Round 3c.

The other Midlands fourth round ties will see Whitchurch host Olney and Nuneaton take on Scunthorpe.

The National Colts Cup was introduced in the 1997/98 season as part of the East Midlands RU’s centenary celebrations.

Both the Cup and the Plate competitions are still organised by East Midlands and have continued to grow in strength and popularity.

This is the second season that the competitions have been contested by Under 18 teams from clubs across the country. Previously they were Under 19 club tournaments.
