Summary of results Saturday 25th July 2015

Back with a bang after a week’s absence the drama continues unabated.

In Division One 1st XIs, leaders Pershore stayed 55 points clear with a 12th straight win at Hagley, in fact all three Pershore sides have won “three out of three” for the past six weeks, a fantastic testament to their strength in depth.

Nomads had Dave White’s plucky 88 not out to thank for their 4 wicket win at Pedmore who must have thought their poor run was ending when the visitors were 194-6 chasing 269 to win. Droitwich thrashed second bottom Oldswinford to stay just 12 adrift of Nomads, who they are chasing for 2nd spot, and they have a 22 point cushion over 4th placed Bewdley who lost at Colwall as Ben Wheeler made 112no.

Burghill carried on with their recovery, winning for a 4th week in a row defeating Belbroughton who now lead Burghill by 10 points in 7th place. The final game saw Redditch continue their own revival by dragging Bromyard back towards the bottom with a comprehensive victory over the troubled Herefordshire men now without a win for a month.

More relegation jitters next week as Redditch must go to Burghill, to see whose nerve holds best, Bromyard host Droitwich and the bottom pair Pedmore and Oldswinford meet at Albemarle Road.

In Division Two 1st XIs, if the Division One title looks straightforward, this Division is anything but, as it was blown wide open with the top three all losing to the sides immediately below them, for the top two it was their first reversals this campaign.

Leaders Bredon lost at home to 5th placed Worcester Dominies for whom Jon Hancock made 120, Cookley slipped up at 4th placed Coombs Wood and Stourport were brought back to earth at home to Feckenham as Danny Bloomer cracked 129 for the visitors.

However, Bredon actually stretched their lead over Cookley to 19 points and Stourport are 16 further back in third. Elsewhere, Wormelow beat Enville, Harborne won the basement battle with Malvern and Evesham have leapfrogged Lye with a narrow 2 wickets win.

Next week Bredon, Cookley and Stourport will be trying to regain their dignities with matches against Evesham, Lye and Malvern respectively.

In Division Three 1st XIs, the top four sides all won as Alvechurch won by just 7 runs at home to second bottom Ross on Wye, Himbleton beat Netherton thanks to  a century from Ali Pretty, Chaddesley thrashed Avoncroft and Bartestree & Lugwardine recorded a big win over Alveley the side in last position.

So Alvechurch head Himbleton by 13 points and then come Chaddesley 2 behind and Bartestree who are a further 11 adrift. In other games, Old Vigornians beat Rushwick and Claverley saw off Cleobury winning by 195 runs.

Next week Alvechurch are at Avoncroft whilst Himbleton and Chaddesley play the bottom two sides, Ross and Alveley.

Division Four 1st XIs – Kempsey recovered from last week’s first defeat of the season to beat last placed Old Hill as Zak O’Neill made 89 and Barnards Green kept up the pressure ahead of next week’s meeting at Newland by winning by a slim 8 runs at Halesowen. Bromsgrove and Kidderminster stayed 3rd and 4th with wins at Fiveways and Harvington respectively.

Martley beat Himley and Hanley beat Oldswinford to complete the games and apart from Kempsey’s trip to Barnards Green next week, Bromsgrove and Kidderminster will be hoping to profit from that meeting as they host Halesowen and Himley.

Division Five 1st XIs – second placed Astwood Bank beat Old Elizabethans and they stay 5 points behind leaders Stourport after they beat Stourbridge thanks to Dave Cook’s 119.

Tenbury beat Redditch and West Malvern beat Enville to stay 3rd and 4th, 21 and 31 respectively behind Stourport and also to open up an 83 points cushion for the top four above Stourbridge. In the final match, Barnt Green beat Hallow by a mere 11 runs.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the 2nd XIs, Division one leaders Stourport remain 42 points in front after they won easily at bottom side Rushwick with Tom Neath taking 5-39. Nomads beat Pedmore thanks to 107 not out by Joe Laugher and have moved 26 ahead of 3rd placed Colwall who beat Bewdley.

Hagley are next after a win at Evesham to draw level with their hosts, next are Redditch who lost at 11th placed Netherton. In the final match Belbroughton beat Enville.

In Division two, Pershore are still the team to catch as they increased their lead, accounting easily for bottom side Lye and they now lead Bromyard, who lost at home to Harborne by 26 points. For Bromyard, Ash Bullock made 89 and for Harborne who are now 3rd, Kenny Pratt made 124 not out.

In the other games, Feckenham beat Droitwich, Cookley thrashed Coombs Wood, Harry Madeley contributing 101 Avoncroft edged out Bredon by 7 runs and Burghill beat Alvechurch.

In Division three 2nds the leaders Oldswinford beat Old Vigornians and second placed Wormelow’s match at Kidderminster was a victim of the weather so they are now 41 points behind but stay 3 ahead of Kidderminster who are 3 in front of Alveley who were guided home by Frazer Jones’ 99 in their win over Bartestree.

Bromsgrove beat Claverley with Richard Barnes scoring 128, Chaddesley beat Dominies and Himley beat Malvern.

Division four 2nds leaders Five ways thrashed Cleobury and second placed Kempsey beat Old Hill to stay just 5 points behind them.

Himbleton lost ground as they lost at Martley, thanks to 5-26 from Joe Adams so Barnards Green closed the gap in 4th by winning at home to Halesowen.

In the last match, Oldswinford beat Hanley Castle

Division five 2nds Stourport beat Stourbridge by just 18 runs, Tenbury stay 2nd after winning at Redditch despite Matt Harrey’s 84 for the home team.

Astwood Bank are 3rd after beating O.E’s thanks to 107 from Adam Haslam, West Malvern’s 88 was 20 too many for Enville and Lawson Roll’s 88 helped Barnt Green to beat Hallow.

Division Six, leaders Cutnall Green dismissed Romsley for 25 with Neil Evans taking the day’s best bowling figures of 7-4 and they have opened up a 22 points lead as Birlingham lost at home to Highley.

Harborne’s match was abandoned but Hagley could not take advantage as they lost to bottom side Netherton.

Division Seven North leaders Droitwich lost to Belbroughton who have climbed to 4th and Coombs Wood were the biggest gainers despite not playing and have closed the gap on the leaders to 6 points. Stone are 3rd after they defeated Harborne and Cookley recorded a victory against Pedmore as did Five ways over Bewdley.

Division Seven South – Pershore remained top, by 18 points, from Worcester, after they easily beat Bromyard, who were without some of their recent star performers. Worcester beat Bredon, Evesham beat Bartestree and Ombersley Taverners and Kidderminster were rained off.

The league representative side beat a strong Herefordshire 2nd XI by 50 runs at Eastnor and next month the League’s under 19s side swing into action in three inter-league matches.
