The Twelve Tries of Christmas! There must have been something in the mince-pies on Sunday as a simply rampant Banbury tore through their opponents lines on the final fixture before Christmas.

Playing on the 4G semi-artificial pitch at what is Leicester Tigers training facility was unfortunately not an option. Mind you, with as much give as concrete that was probably no bad thing!

George Grieve made a now familiar break down the left wing to open Banbury’s account, his first of two tries on the day. Jake Dew also scored a brace of tries, as did fly-half Jack Briggs. Briggs’ varied distribution of quick ball from the forwards was the secret to unleashing Banbury’s backs, and one that Wygges struggled to live with for long periods. Briggs also scored 4 points with the boot.

Dan Morris showed a welcome return to full pace as he grabbed a brace of tries for himself, and Jake Anderson powered through the Wygges lines on many occasions and netted a haul of three tries. Last on the very long try-scorers list was flanker Pascal Hardy, just rewards for a solid shift at the coalface.

Full credit to the Wygges for their gritted determination in the face of what was really an onslaught. In the final phases of play they got just reward as they took two scrums against the head and scored on the last play of the game. Final score 64 – 5 to Banbury.
