A  Junior coxless quad from Bewdley Rowing Club recorded by far the fastest time of the day to win Head of the River Race at Evesham outright.

The J18 crew of Tim Hopkins, Oli Bushnell, James Alexander and John Keen-Tomlinson covered the 4km upstream course on the River Avon in just 15 minutes 50 seconds, setting a new course record for the event.

A course record for an Intermediate 2 Pair of 19 minutes 39 seconds was set by John Purcell and Richard Ray. The newly formed double of Alex Smith and Ryan Porter beat off two crews from Dartmouth ARC to win in an impressive time of 18 minutes 46 seconds.

Where some crews floundered at the river’s notorious S bends, cox Laura Ray steered a perfect course to help the Masters E four of Mik Edmonds, Phil Jackson, Jem Rogers and Hadyn Hughes achieve a winning time of 17 minutes 56 seconds.
