After a disappointing loss last week, Bretforton Ladies 1s were looking to get back to their winning ways this week against BAC.

In an important game for the home team, Bretforton came out with hunger and determination and they were rewarded early on. A series of short and accurate passes between Alice Cook and Julie Hall took the ball up the left wing, and a perfectly weighted pass from Tess Lewinton left Cook with the chance to slip the ball past the BAC keeper.

BAC responded quickly when their striker took advantage of a loose ball in the Bretforton defensive area to make the score 1-1.

Great switching play around the back of the Bretforton defence allowed the home side to attack down both sides of the field, with the BAC team unable to deal with the pace and enthusiasm of Hannah Dufty on the right wing.

Bretforton’s persistence was rewarded with a second goal after a loose ball in the BAC defensive D was picked up and slotted home by Lewinton to put the home team back in front.

Their lead was short lived, BAC’s striker picked the ball up at the edge of the area, and a fantastic strike left the Bretforton defence little time to react, leaving the score even at 2-2 going into half time.

After the break Bretforton showed exactly what this match meant to them and pressed the visitors from the whistle. The visitors lack of communication in defence again left a free ball that this time Sarah Hall was able to get on the end of and push the home team into the lead once again.

The visitors looked set to level the score once more, but some solid defending from the homeside kept BAC at bay, and a fabulous save from the Bretforton keeper who pushed a high flying ball over the bar, kept the score at 3-2.

Hall took advantage of the space the BAC defence were leaving her, and took her chance to run into the area and take a strike from a very tight angle and slamming it into the far corner leaving the BAC keeper no chance and making the score 4-2

Bretforton were unlucky to further their lead when several shots flew just wide of the BAC goal, and a sliding effort from Hall went amiss when the ball flew inches past her stick.

Player of the match went to Cook who showed fine form in both attack and defence.
