Bretforton Ladies 1st team lost 2-1 away to Leominster on Saturday in their second league match of the season.

With only ten players, Bretforton fought well to keep the score close and their chances of coming away with a point even closer, with the winning goal from Leominster only coming in the final minutes of the game.

Leominster took the lead halfway through the first half with a great goal from their centre-midfielder, who dibbled past the Bretforton defence and snuck the ball into the bottom left hand corner; one of the very few shots that Bretforton’s Heather Carr didn’t manage to stop after a solid performance in goal.

Defensively Bretforton managed to keep the opposition at bay for the remainder of the first half with some seamless pairings between the midfield partnership of Dani Cox and Lisa Workman, who dealt with any breakthroughs from the Leominster attack.

Bretforton scored their equaliser early on in the second half with a great spurring run from Sarah Hall who took the ball down field and around the keeper before calmly slipping it into the back of the goal to make it 1-1.

Bretforton then went down to 9 players when Tessa Lewinton was green carded and spent a few minutes on the bench. Bretforton didn't give up though and, once back to ten players, had a few more chances to get ahead but unfortunately weren’t able to convert.

Leominsters winning goal came after a disallowed short corner, where their midfield player then went on to score a sensational goal smashed from the edge of the area, not giving Bretforton much time to react.

The outstanding performances of the match undoubtedly came from Bretforton’s defence; and in particular Julie Hall who commanded the play particularly well and kept the teams morale up and structure in place.

With a player down it was a difficult match for Bretforton who now look forward to their next home game this Saturday against Westberries 2s 10.30am at De Montfort school in Evesham.
