Brocton’s poor start to the season continued with another heavy defeat, this time at the hands of Sporting Khalsa.

Aidan Stone was in action almost from the kick off when a free kick was headed down and he had to save smartly at the foot of the post. The respite was short lived though as the ball was played down the left to Daniel Ashton and then worked around the goal area by Luke Shearer but just as Brocton were thinking that they had managed to keep it away from the danger area, so Michael Perks hit a beauty from fully 25 yards that gave the visitors the lead on just 7 minutes.

Brocton tried to hit back and Dave Berks put a fine pass into Matt Dean’s right wing overlapping run but Dean’s cross found the visiting keeper Tom Turner. Berks then sprang the offside trap with a perfectly timed pass into Jack Edwards run but ‘keeper Turner denied him in the one on one situation to preserve Khalsa’s lead.

Brocton seemed to have settled and were getting into the game as Dan Lomas hit a cross field pass and Jack Edwards collected and moved in on goal. Josh D Wilson, having sprinted to give support, took away two defenders and Edwards had space to move inside. Once again Turner was able to collect the shot.

Khalsa attacked next with a good move into the box by David Meese and a shot against the bar by Luke Shearer. The rebound fell favourably for Daniel Ashton and he did not spurn the opportunity to make it 0-2 on 35 minutes.

Once again Brocton came back into the game in the second period with Josh Wilson Senior and Paul McMahon on the field. Lomas and Berks combined to give Edwards a chance which was cleared for a throw and Josh Wilson junior headed over the bar when the ball came into the box. A Berks free kick then ricocheted straight into Turner’s arms before a similar ricochet at the other end wrong footed Brocton’s defence and left Craig Bannister with a clear sight of goal. He hit a beauty from 30 yards to beat Stone and make it 0-3 on 51 minutes

It took a shot of similar calibre a fine left foot strike by Edwards to finally beat Turner and peg it back to 1-3 but a high ball into Brocton’s box headed home by Meese on 61 minutes restored Khalsa’s 3 goal cushion.

Shearer rounded off Khalsa’s domination with goals on 68 and 88 minutes to make the final score 1-6.
