A low sun and a fierce cross wind threatened to have the greatest bearing on the outcome of this match, but both teams coped well with difficult conditions and an intriguing football match was the result.

Brocton were the first to probe as Jamie Evans, playing on the left flank, made a darting run and combined with the wily Paul McMahon to find more space and time near the opponents’ bye line. Evans cut in from the flank and drew a decent save from Adam Jenkins in Boldmere’s goal.
Sam Bell was next with a thrusting run inside from his right flank. Evans was on hand again to receive Bell’s pass into the box, but this time gave Jenkins an easier save to make.
Boldmere tried to put the ball beyond Brocton’s back line for their formidable target man Jermaine Clarke, to try to hold up for their midfield to join in, but the Brocton centre back pairing of Matt Dockerty and Ed Booth were equal to their attempts and kept the ball well away from Calum Barrett, in Brocton’s goal.
Charlie Jones and Carl Morris were kept busy in the midfield and their work made sure that their opponents’ forward passes were always either made under pressure or from very deep. When the ball did break to a Brocton player the counters were incisive. Jamie Evans combined with Dave Berks on the half hour and once again it was Evans getting away his shot and once again Jenkins parried it wide. When Bell chested down a free kick from Berks, it was Charlie Jones who latched on to the ball, but his drive at goal rose harmlessly over the bar and Paul McMahon finished off the half with a shot over the bar from a Bell cross.
Evans continued the second period in similar vein with a cut in from his left flank, finding Bell who slipped the ball to Berks, but once again the final effort was too high. The Badgers were not kept at bay for much longer though as McMahon finished off a period of pressure in the Boldmere box with the faintest of headers over the advancing Jenkins to give the home side the lead.
McMahon was soon involved again as he slipped the ball to Berks left of goal. Berks cut back on his less favoured right foot but still brought a good save from Jenkins. McMahon was then substituted for a well earned rest, replaced by Jack Edwards and Jack Lees was soon to follow, replacing the very effective Callum Rudd, whose place at right back was filled by Evans in the closing stages. Edwards soon made his pace tell with a great break down the right and Lees was unfortunate to hit over after doing well to get on to Edwards’ cross. Dave Ablewhite then replaced Berks as Brocton saw out the remainder of a hard fought match and seal a well earned three points.

Brocton: Calum Barrett, Callum Rudd, Matt Hardiman, Matt Dockerty, Ed Booth,
