After an entertaining first half the real chances and real excitement was saved for the second period. The first goal came almost directly from severe Casuals pressure on Brocton’s goal.

A corner was swung in and cleared by Brocton.  It was swept to the other end where a corner for Brocton was the result. Dan Lomas took possession as the ball could only be half cleared and seemingly with time to spare, he placed a beautiful strike just inside the top right hand corner of the goal, giving Ryan Taylor no chance.

The goal lifted Brocton’s momentum and within minutes they could have been two ahead but for a fine save by Taylor. Adam Whitehouse had started the move with a throw to Matt Skinner. Skinner made ground on the left before finding Dave Berks, who reached the bye line and put in a low cross for Paul McMahon to strike at goal. The shot was a good one, but the save was better.

Sam Bell then ran with the ball on the right. He swept past one defender but showed too much of the ball to the next and in an instant, Brocton were forced on the defensive. The defence were alert and swiftly gathered to smother what could easily have been a way back for the visitors.

Paul McMahon then hit a sharp chance just wide as Brocton worked the ball into the box but it was the sheer speed and determination of Sean Williams which pulled the game back for Casuals. Williams had got beyond Brocton’s back line a few times but had failed to find the target or the time to get a shot away, but on this occasion the ball came back to him as Brocton defended and he hit a wonderful half volley which Whitehouse could do nothing to prevent it going in at the near post.

Casuals were on fire and Williams had what was probably an even better chance to score from the very next move. He worked himself a one on one with Whitehouse only to put the ball straight into the keeper’s grateful arms.

Liam Haycock replaced Jethro Jarrett but it was Berks whose fine cross found Paul McMahon and McMahon who side footed home to give the home side the lead.

Luke Tudor was within a whisker of grabbing the equaliser as pressure in the box left him free in front of goal, but he looped the chance over the bar but his blushes were spared as he was given off side. Then Williams once more broke into the box with the ball at his feet only to find Whitehouse again.

Whitehouse threw the ball to Lomas, who quickly found McMahon and Gary Fife, on in the second half as a substitute, would not spurn the chance of adding to his goal tally as he rounded Taylor to side foot home and seal the victory for Brocton.

Brocton: Adam Whitehouse, Sam Bell, Dave Ablewhite, Rob Tomlinson, Matt Skinner, Dave Berks, Andy Bourne, Dan Lomas, Lukas Putka, Jethro Jarrett, Paul McMahon.

Used substitutes: Gary Fife, Liam Haycock.
