Racing Club Warwick 1  Brocton 3

After their recent exits from both the FA Vase and the Staffs FA Vase Brocton returned to winning ways with a 3-1 away victory over Racing Club Warwick.

The result maintains Brocton’s unbeaten record in the Midland Combination Premier Division and leaves them 3 points clear at the top of the table with games in hand on their rivals.

The Badgers were lively from the kick off, with Sam Bell getting in a good cross in the first minute but it just eluded centre forward Gary Fife. Warwick however responded with some neat work and quick play. Their youthful looking side, played with no fear and Leigh Phillips on the right flank put Jamie Evans and Rob Tomlinson under some pressure which resulted in Adam Whitehouse having to come to the rescue as an under hit back pass struggled to reach him.

Both Fife and Dave Berks managed to get shots away but without troubling keeper Ryan Bennett. Racing Club broke forward quickly catching out both Levi Bailey and Charlie Jones and with keeper Whitehouse stranded it took a goal line clearance from Rob Tomlinson to keep the Badgers on terms.

Warwick were having the best of the chances at this stage on the bumpy pitch with Joss Tiff doing fine work in mid field, at the other end on thirty three minutes Jethro Jarrett was put through by Fife only to shoot just over the angle from twelve yards and when the ball went back up the field, Harry Jeavis produced a fierce shot which Whitehouse held well.

However on 40 minutes the breakthrough came when following good approach work by Sam Bell Gary Fife beat Ryan Bennett to put Brocton ahead. Warwick came back strong in the remaining minutes of the first half but Brocton held firm and ended the half with their lead intact.

For the second half substitute Richard Allen replaced Dan Lomas and Brocton showing much more urgency started to dominate the centre of the park and from a short pass from Jethro  Jarrett, Sam Bell slotted the ball past advancing keeper Ryan Bennett to double Brocton’s lead .

They stretched their advantage  to 3-0 just 5 minutes later when a mix-up in the Warwick defence  saw Fife convert Sam Bell’s cross to seemingly seal the win.

However Warwick were not prepared to lie down and started to get their composure back. A strong run by Jordan Liburd, and several interchanges with his forwards saw his shot hit a post and rebound for him to finally finish off the move with an unstoppable shot beyond Whitehouse’s reach to peg it back to 1-3.

With twenty minutes to go and Warwick prepared to run for every ball, Brocton boss John Berks sent on experienced subs Ben Harrison and Paul McMahon and their endeavours helped the Badgers to see out time and keep hold of the three points
