Pleasant sunny day at Arden Sailing Club (Near Defford) – for the 7 race in the Pursuit series. Light wind, with odd heavier blows and also odd calms and changes of direction.
Julian Taylor, in a borrowed Heron, set off first -followed seven whole minutes later by a group of Comets, with Malcolm College’s Comet 30 seconds later, as a result of his having had a second place earlier in the series. Three minutes after the Comets, Alan Browning left in his Solo, and then at two minute intervals the Enterprises helmed by Stuart Stephen and Niall Campbell. Taylor kept the Heron in the lead for two laps but then began to be overhauled by the chasing fleet. Niall Campbell moved into second place by the end of lap two, and Stuart Stephen into third, but lost serious ground on Campbell for having to do a 720 penalty turn for fouling him whilst the pair were rounding the Railway mark. Nevertheless Stephen took second place to Campbell’s first, with Malcolm College just edging his Comet into third place ahead of Keith Stevens in the last few seconds of the race.
The second race was for two separate classes. Campbell won the Enterprise class. College and Steven’s had a ding dong battle in the Comet series race – with the former ahead after one lap but then behind for the next two but edged ahead in the last lap to win by just over a minute.
