Leamington III (92) lost to Wellesbourne (48-2) by 8 wkts  (revised target 47)

There is a cricket saying that “Catches win Matches”.  On that basis Wellesbourne beat the visiting Leamington III 9-2.  On a typical early season wicket some skilfully flighted deliveries from Tom Stephenson (5-3-7-3) encouraged some ill-judged shots from Leamington batsmen, and provide the Wellesbourne fielders with ample opportunities to display their excellent skills.  Earlier John Edden (5-2-12-3) had persuaded the visitor’s middle order to surrender to his fielders and Leamington used only 31 of their allotted overs to score 92 runs.  Rain interrupted the Wellesbourne innings with the score standing at 42-2, and when the players returned an hour and a half later their reduced target left them needing just 5 runs for victory.  Leamington showed that they, too, could take catches, James Whitfield taking a smart one to give Dan McCarthy one of his two wickets.
