There are not that many scores of 400 plus in local 50 overs cricket, but this season we only had to wait a few hours into the season for Coleshill to amass 405, including an opening stand of 321 between Pete Magafas (172) and Zeeshan Ahmad (143). Solihull Blosson firled dug in for the draw.

The Premier Division saw all matches end in a win lose, not a draw is sight and new boys Ambleside along with Marston Green, Bablake and Bedworth all achieved maximum points. Marston Green beat fellow promoted club Solihull Municipal in a match over before tea, with the leagues best bowling performance on the Q Abbas 8 For 28, then taking 12 overs to score the 60 required to win. Ambleside at much fancied Four Oaks Saints took the full 24 points with 272 for 8, a century for Sam Neale, then found Jason Dean in good early season form, 6 for 34 and a win in the 40th over, Four Oaks Saints only making the 166 (after being 34 for 5) due to the efforts of Baynes Ridgway.

In division 2, several clubs scored 250 and Corley with 307 for 3 (P Williams 120), made it to 300 in their win against a Wishaw side who made a creditable 238 all out. In division 3 the pick of the action was a close match played a Rowlands who in the spirit of getting the game on, the ECB flag ship campaign in 2015, had provided the ground when RMCC could not secure their’s. RMCC won with a wicket to spare.

Division 4 and 5 saw the effects of the change in league structure with several first XIs playing premier league second XIs, and if it goes the way of opening day all season these divisions will be tight.
