North Midlands Under-16s ended their short representative season with a 13-10 win over Leicestershire at Leicester Grammar School in today’s second Super Sunday tournament.

The match was shaped by the weather conditions with Leicestershire benefiting from heavy rain and wind in the first half.

Although the rain stopped in the second half, a drop in temperature made conditions difficult but North Midlands stuck to their task to top and tail their campaign with wins either side of a defeat by Warwickshire two weeks ago.

North Midlands began brightly with an early unconverted try from openside flanker Aaron Hinkley (Bromsgrove School, Droitwich RFC and Worcestershire), but Leicestershire were ahead by the break through a converted try and a penalty.

A penalty from replacement fly-half Alex Forrester (RGS Worcester and Worcestershire) trimmed the deficit to two points before replacement hooker Jacob Jones (Great Barr School, Sutton Coldfield RFC and Greater Birmingham) rumbled over for the winning try from a rolling maul.

The North Midlands players were all presented with a county tie by North Midlands President Charlie Hemmings at the post-match meal.

The Midlands selectors, who graded every player involved today, will now select a squad for a Development Day ahead of the Midlands Final Trial.
