North Midlands will begin their preparations for this season’s National Under-20 Championship with a friendly against old rivals Warwickshire at Droitwich on Monday October 28 (7.30pm).

The players selected for Monday’s squad have been involved in a series of trials and assessment sessions and will now have the opportunity to impress the selectors in a match situation.

Full-back Chris Fensome, lock Jake Bates and hooker Will Greenwood are among the survivors from last season’s squad but Rob Higgins (Ludlow), Aquile Smith (Worcester University), Tom Pashley (Bournville) and Rees Beddowes (Newport) have been ruled out by injury.

North Midlands begin their championship campaign against Eastern Counties at Moseley on February 2 and will then play East Midlands at Bedford Athletic on February 22 and Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire at Dudley Kingswinford on March 16. All the group matches kick off at 2.30pm.

A second warm-up match is likely to be played against Cheshire early in the New Year on  date and at a venue yet to be confirmed.
