North Midlands Under-18s made a disappointing start to their short representative season with a 25-3 defeat against a well-drilled Warwickshire at Barkers Butts RFC this evening.

North Midlands took an early lead with a penalty from fly-half Joe Hunt (Bromsgrove School and Luctonians) but they soon surrendered that advantage.

Despite having a beefy front row, North Midlands struggled to establish a forward platform and they were undone by the pace and opportunism of Warwickshire’s backs.

Warwickshire drew level with a penalty and took the lead just before half time with a well-taken long range try.

A second try early in the second half, when the North Midlands’ defence creaked under pressure, stretched the lead and two more tries followed in the final quarter.

North Midlands host Staffordshire at Stourbridge on October 21 in their next match at this age group.
