Old Leamingtonians Ladies Rugby team had defeat snatched from the jaws of victory by Teddington Antlers Ladies on Sunday 16 February.

The game was the second round of the cup, which OLs had reached after a nailbiting victory over Coalville Ladies last year.

The team were raring to go after recent matches being cancelled due to weather, and Lydia Furse expertly took the helm as captain for the first time.

Fifteen minutes into the game speedy centre Tasha Barnes set the team in good track with a try between the posts. Despite brilliant ground-gaining tackles by Tasha Barnes,  Yoli Sempere Padilla and the unstoppable Vicky Lewis, Teddington then scored and converted. The team re-gained their lead after an intense five minutes, with a try by flanker Kim Carlisle supported by wing Tami Summers in her final game for the team, but another missed conversion meant the half time score stayed at 10-7.

The opposition came back fighting after half time and broke through the defensive line to score between the posts and convert. The team brought it back up with a try from centre Yoli Sempere Padilla that was contested by the referee, before swift hands and a successful score by veteran player Victoria Stokes subbing in as scrum half. Victory seemed at hand after Tasha Barnes scored yet another try, but seconds from the referee’s whistle Teddington managed a final try and converted under intense pressure, making the final score 21-20 to a very elated opposition.
