Droitwich’s produced a much improved performance to claim a deserved draw at league leaders Kidderminster on Saturday.

On a superb day for rugby both sides tried to run the ball wide and only some excellent defence kept the score board in tact in the early exchanges. A good period of pressure by the visitors saw the hard working James Thomas go close before Droitwich were awarded a penalty which Tom Wormington successfully converted. The home side came back strongly attaching the flanks but some good tackling by Ben Rean and Greg MacLeod saw these attempts thwarted. A series of lineouts near the Droitwich line finally saw Kidderminster go over to take a 5 points to three lead in to half time.
The second period saw Droitwich raise the tempo and an excellent charge down by ever alert hooker Rob Poke enabled him to gather and dive over in the corner. A well times pass by Sean Walker then saw the muscular Mark Strutt power over under the posts to stretch the visitors lead. As the game entered the final quarter Kidderminster dominated as they strived to get a result, Droitwich defended manfully but got on to the wrong side of the referee and had two players sent to the sin bin. The inevitable scores came for the home side to set up a tense final few minutes. The game ended with honours even which was a fair result, although both sides may claim they had chances to win the game. These are much needed points for the Spa side who still have an awful lot to do if they are to avoid relegation.
