Droitwich RFC started their season off in style winning 16-10 with a solid performance against newly promoted Pinley RFC.

Spa started very slowly in the first 20 minutes going 3-0 down with a straight forward penalty for the hosts. With Spa's first visit into the hosts 22, Steven Poke put Chris Oliver in the corner to score after good phase play by the Droitwich forwards.

The second half started the same way as the first with Spa under enormous defensive pressure with good tackling from Glenn and Luke Topping keeping the attack under wraps. Good turnover ball created space for the Spa backs and a good break by Dan Wilkinson saw Spa awarded a penalty which Bobby Scott-Walker took advantage of.

However from the restart a lack of concentration saw Pinley deservedly score in the corner to go back ahead in the game 10-8. Spa were now attacking their try line with more aggression and from an attacking scrum were awarded a penalty which again saw Bobby Scott-Walker regain the lead for Spa.

Droitwich were now growing in confidence and after some good handling from James Thomas in midfield to set up an overlap Ben Ream beat two men to score in the corner after a neat inside pass from Sean Walker.

Droitwich now defended with great composure and saw the game out to take a very good win in which the young Droitwich side can be very proud of, a point echoed by coach Rob Bray junior.

Spa take on Banbury RFC on Saturday at the Glynn Mitchell Memorial ground at 3pm, everyone is welcome.
