Droobers Placed 3rd in National League

The annual UK Orienteering League comprised this year of 19 major events, including Night Championships, Urban, Sprint, Long and Middle distance races staged throughout the UK. Octavian Droobers members clocked up an impressive 5896 points just behind Bristol Orienteering Club 5955 points and South Yorkshire’s 5953 points.

Congratulations to the fifteen club members who all contributed to this score for the club: Anne Straube W35, Kirsten Strain W21, Trevor Simpson M75, Hilary Simpson W75, Andy Simpson M40, Liz Phillips W50, Harrison McCartney M16 Chris McCartney M45, Mike Hampton M65, Julie Emmerson W18, Andy Emmerson M55, Matthew Elkington M20, Barry Elkington M55, Sheila W65, Peter Carey M70.

Top runners at the Loughborough Urban Race organised by Leicester Orienteering Club were: Andy Simpson M40 2nd in 53.19mins on the Mens Open 8.6km course. Bruce Bryant M55 1st on the 3.8km Mens Ultra Veteran M65+ course in 29.50mins, Peter Carey M70 3rd 34.30mins and Mike Hampton M65 4th 34.38mins, Janet Richardson W65 2nd on the Womens Ultra Vet 2.8km course in 38.14mins and Peter Markham M10 2nd on the Junior 2km course in 24.36mins.


Next event

The next local event will be at Cawston, Rugby, on Saturday morning 22 November, with starts from 10.30 until 12noon. Full details about start times, courses and costs will be on the club website. Runners and walkers of all ages, 5 – 85 years, and abilities will be welcome to come along to try out this outdoor adventure navigation sport. Help is available to all newcomers.
