Southam United striker Oli Manoochehri missed the match at Blackwood on Saturday, as he stepped out for England Deaf in their first European tournament in Norway.

Although failing to qualify for the final, England Deaf put up a good showing in Oslo, with Manoochehri playing in all three matches.

After coming from 5-1 down to beat hosts Norway 7-5 in their opening match, England succumbed to the best team in the tournament when losing 9-2 to Russia. This meant that they needed a victory over France in their final game on Sunday to give themselves any chance of securing a place in the tournament final in Bulgaria, but went down 7-5.

Head coach Paul Harrison said: “Overall, as an experience, it was something that money can’t buy.”

“The experience of playing the best team in the Europe was fantastic and we will learn from our mistakes and build on our performances.”

Manoochehri, who has scored 10 goals for Saints this season, returns to the squad for the visit to Pelsall Villa this weekend.
