Despite two goals by striker Lance Smith, it wasn`t enough to prevent Evesham United suffering their first home defeat in the Calor League South & West against neighbours Bishops Cleeve.

The former Badsey Rangers forward who has made a big impression since his move at the beginning of the month, took ten minutes to open his account for the season, racing clear before planting a low drive past Louie Barnfather into the far corner.

From then until half-time, Evesham`s John Bateman was the busier of the two keepers making fine saves from Nick Hill and the dangerous Ed Williams.

Two goals, however, in two minutes at the start of the second-half turned the game in favour of the visitors. Joe Hanks headed in from Lewis Binns flag-kick and soon after, Hanks rounded Bateman to put the Villagers 2-1 ahead.

Hanks then went on to complete a well taken hat-trick on 79 minutes, escaping the

clutches of the United back-four before finding the net via an upright.

Smith, outstanding in only his third league start for the Robins, reduced the deficit nine minutes from time firing through a ruck of defenders and despite a late flurry of free-kicks and corners Evesham were unable to find an equaliser and subsequently lose their unbeaten home record.
