Leamington Cricket Club Midweek XI 103 for 6 beat Penleigh & Essendon Grammar School 102 for 9

A youthful Leamington midweek XI gained some small consolation for successive Ashes defeats on Monday. Melbourne tourists, Penleigh & Essendon Grammar School, were welcomed to Arlington Avenue, and batted first on a warm summer's evening.
With jet lag very much in evidence PEGS struggled against testing bowling on a pitch slower than those experienced in Victoria. A late flurry and Leamington's usual generous donation of wides saw PEGS close on 102 - 9 in 20 overs.
PEGS bowled with rather more urgency and had Leamington in trouble until Max Webber, the Club's own Aussie, took advantage of some loose bowling to edge Leamington ahead. He perished tamely in the end but Chris Calcott hit some lusty blows as Leamington eased home by 4 wickets.
