GB Selections for Droobers

Following successful performances at selection races British Orienteering have selected two Octavian Droobers club members to compete in the World Cup series. Congratulations to Will Gardner and Kirsten Strain who will both be representing Great Britain in Round 1 which will be held in Poland on 30th April to 2nd May. Kirsten has also been selected for the European Orienteering Championships team, which incorporates Round 2 of the World Cup, to be held in Czech Republic 21 to 27 May.  

Several club members competed at the two day Lake District event and on Day 1 at Tarn Hows Julie Emmerson W20 was 3rd woman on the Brown 4.11km course taking 37.57mins just ahead of Kirsten Strain W21 38.11mins. Oliver Lunn M14 was 2nd, top junior, in 34.30mins on the Green 2.77km course, and Felix Lunn M14 5th in 39.00mins. On the Orange 1.57km course Florence Lunn W12 was top junior girl taking 25.39mins.  

On Day 2 at Holm Fell Kirsten Strain W21 was 1st woman, on the Short Brown 6.51km course taking 67.08mins and Julie Emmerson W20 2nd 4 seconds behind in 67.12mins. Felix Lunn was 3rd in 36.31mins and Oliver Lunn 4th in 37.24mins on the 3.34km Green course. 

Peter Carey M70 was 1st on the Green 5.1km course at Sherwood Pines event organised by Nottingham Orienteering Club, his winning time was 51.41mins. Sheila Carey W70 was 4th in 54.20mins. Harrison McCartney M18 was 1st on the long Brown 10.2km course taking 1.04.09mins to find 22 controls and Nathan Lawson was 3rd in 1.16.19mins  

At the JK2016 championships, there was a challenging Trail ‘O’ event at Ampleforth Abbey for able bodies and disabled competitors. Anne Straube W40 was a prize-winner in Elite class after correctly identifying controls on a map in the 3rd shortest time, from a fixed points around the course.
