Old Leamingtonians Ladies RFC played their final home match of the season this weekend, beating Rugby Lionesses 46 - 10.

Old Leams could not have got off to a better start; having kicked off they quickly won the ball back and just a couple of minutes later captain Jen Vermeulen was crossing the try line. Her fellow flanker Jamielee McCreadie quickly followed suit, and her try was converted by Sam Smyth to put Old Leams in a 12 - 0 lead.

Old Leams kept up their momentum, trapping Lionesses in their own half. With an Old Leams scrum close to the posts, number 8 Kyra Gleeson grabbed the ball from the back and ran it over the line. Once again, Smyth was on hand to convert, giving the home team a 19 - 0 lead at half time.

After the restart Rugby took full advantage of the fact that Old Leams had taken their foot off the gas, running in their first try of the game. Fortunately, Old Leams were able to pull themselves together and recapture the form of the first 20 minutes. ‘Back of the match’ Tiff Haggith, playing her first game at centre, weaved her way through Rugby’s defence to score her first try for Old Leams.

McCreadie then bagged her second and third, securing her ‘forward of the match’ title. Full back Alex Dixon scored the final Old Leams try. Although Rugby Lionesses were able to grab one back in the closing minutes it was too little too late, and Old Leams ended the victors.
