Last week was a wakeup call for Hales who didn't perform against Sandbach at home.

A three hour trip to rainy Scunthorpe saw a heart to heart in the changing room before the game, a reality check.

Hales started well but the home side, big and aggressive, showed initial advantage with a penalty to lead 3 nil. The lead changed several times through penalties from infringements from both sides, Hooper converting twice. The first half was a close contest with a break away try by Hales centre Andy Holloway to lead 8 points to 6.

Mark Evans arrived late due to work commitments to come on after 20 minutes, Hales started to dominate with Jordan and man of the match Pete Fitzgerald leading from the front.

The second half saw the visitors start to make their mark on 50 minutes after excellent driving mauls which the home side struggled to contain. Fitzgerald scored a great try converted by Hooper to lead 15 - 6. Scunthorpe fought back with two more penalties with Holloway receiving a yellow card for obstruction.

Again infringements from both sides saw penalties pushing the score to 18 - 12 to Hales. The visitors then took control.

Combination forward and back play saw Wing Luke  Smith gather the ball in his half to sprint around the Scunthorpe defence for a try to lead 23 - 12.

The pressure continued with the Scunthorpe supporters recognising the writing was really on the wall. Yet another driving maul by Hales at 70 minutes gave the ever present Fitzy another chance for a touchdown which he obviously took and scored for a final score and bonus point 28 -12.

Back on track as league leaders.
