SSE National League Two North high-flyers Stourbridge and Macclesfield both failed to claim a try bonus point for the first time this season in hard-fought victories against Sheffield Tigers and Chester respectively.

Stourbridge had to come from behind to beat the struggling Tigers, with No.8 Chris Depper scoring a brace of tries, while Macclesfield edged out their near-neighbours by the narrowest of margins, 14-15.

A late flourish saw Darlington Mowden Park end Birmingham & Solihull's unbeaten home record, 28-21. DMP trailed by a point with nine minutes to go, but Gavin Painter's second penalty of the afternoon and an 80th-minute try from Ross Doneghan saw the north-east outfit snatch victory at the death.

DMP moved above Luctonians into third as a result of the victory and Luctonians' first loss of the season: 22-30 against Caldy. In a pulsating game, Rich Vasey converted all three Caldy tries and kicked three penalties for a 15-point haul, while Luctonians left Merseyside with the consolation of a try bonus point for scoring four tries – two of them by flanker Brad Talbot.

Harrogate kept 15 men on the park for the first time this season in a 39-12 home win over Bromsgrove. Centre Sam Bottomley scored twice and there were further tries for fellow backs Harry Parrish and Luke Edwards and hooker Steve Maycock.

Hull opened their account with a 25-20 win away to Dudley Kingswinford, who, like Sheffield Tigers, are still to register a victory. Hull led from start to finish and scored three tries through Dominic Lespierre, Lloyd Harrington and Ben Dorrington.

No.8 Dominic Moon scored twice in Preston Grasshoppers' 37-22 win over Otley at Lightfoot Green, while Sedgley Park and Leicester Lions shared 10 tries between them in a 38-33 win for the Greater Manchester outfit. Lions No.8 Robert Young scored a hat-trick of tries yet still ended up being on the losing side.
