Moseley and Malvern, the two surviving North Midlands clubs in the National Colts Cup competitions, have both been handed home ties in the fifth round later this month.

Moseley will face Billingham from Durham in the fifth round of the National Colts Cup while Malvern will host Lutterworth from Leicestershire at the same stage of the National Colts Plate.

Moseley progressed by beating Melton Mowbray in the fourth round but Luctonians were beaten 38-3 at home by Nottingham Corsairs and Kidderminster Carolians went down 20-12 at Syston in the Cup.

Malvern booked their fifth round place in the Plate with a 32-13 win at Hereford but Old Halesonians went down 17-15 in their home fourth round tie.

The fifth round ties in both the Cup and Plate are scheduled to be played on or before February 21.

The National Colts Cup was introduced in the 1997/98 season as part of the East Midlands RU’s centenary celebrations. The Plate competition, for teams beaten in rounds one to three of the Cup, was introduced two seasons later.

Both competitions are still organised by East Midlands and are contested by Under-18 teams from clubs across England.
