Rowington's first game of the season saw premier division Long Itchington visit the Theatre of Dreams and with Skipper Scott Rogers winning the toss the Itchers were inserted into bat.
Rowington stalwart Steve Jay opened the bowling along with the youngster Matt Williams and they kept a tight line and after a few close calls for LBW the openers Eadon and Jack began to grab the odd run, but as Jack tried to lift it he succumbed LBW to Jay for 19 and in came Clarke who was promptly run out for a couple as Mat Williams had a direct hit,
Rawbone joined Eadon and although Eaden was dropped in the slips as Jay grabbed at the wrong ball, they started to push the score up past the 50.
Jay completed his ten overs and Leon Clarke joined Andy Shaw in the attack, Rawbone was doggedly defending but the wily Shaw soon trapped him LBW for 21 and the Itchers are three down.
Clarke then gets Eaden (28) to play around one and now they are 4 down and not past 70. Perks joins Insall and they start the recovery before Insall (12) gets caught by Joe Kelly again off Clarke,
Brookes comes in bur Shaw soon bowls him for 4 and so Wood joins Perks and they form a partnership that takes the Itchers past the ton and on towards 150,
Clarke finishes his stint as does Shaw so Rogers and Kelly take over the baton,
Perks passes 50 as the Itchers pass 150 and some big hitting sees them get to 175 when Perks goes for 63 to Rogers, a final flurry sees the Itchers end on 188 - 7 with Wood unbeaten on 24.

Jay            10    2    25    1
Williams      9    4    28    0
Rogers        6    0    24    1
Clarke         7    1    17    2
Shaw          9    0    39    2
Kelly           4    0    44    0

A nice leisurely tea was taken in the glorious April sunshine and then Alex Smith and Graham Sly took to the crease - Wood opened along with Aulakh who took a tumble in his second over and his game was over almost before it began,
Wood then got Smith to edge to a diving Clarke behind the stumps and the R;s are  6 - 1.
In comes the evergreen skipper Scott Rogers and he soon finds his rhythm and ably assisted by Sly starts scoring in rapid time and Rogers quickly passes his 50 as they put on a further 128 runs before Rogers tries for one big one too many and Perks bowls him for a fine 70.
Sly then takes over the Rogers role and along with Clive Haywood move Rowington to within 20 of the target and Sly is on 83, can he get his ton?,
Haywood marshalls the strike to give Sly every chance and with the score on 184 Sly hits a boundary to go to 101, the next over sees Haywood hit the winning runs and its all over with 3 overs to spare.

Perks      6    0    24    1
Wood    10    3    35    1

The only wicket takers.

A good performance by Rowington faced with a team with a least 8 first teamers and although they lost a bowler you still need to score the runs, another stern test next week again against premier division opponents in Leamington and then it all begins!!
