Stunning defence sees Kenilworth reach Cup fourth round with victory at Ashfield

Kenilworth Ladies have progressed to the fourth round of the Junior Cup having secured a 10-0 win away to Ashfield after a superb defensive performance.
The victory sees them reach the fourth round for the first time having previously reached the third round in last season's tournament.
Kenilworth started the match brightly, threatening the Ashfield line on a handful of occasions with winger Harrie Clemens just missing out on two tries after just going into touch.
It was third time lucky for Clemens after ten minutes however, with the winger crossing on the left to score her side's first try of the afternoon following a flowing move from the backs.
Kenilworth continued to pressure the Ashfield defence as the first forty progressed, but with half time approaching, Ashfield had opportunities to level the score. Kenilworth's defence stood firm, however, and the visitors took a 5-0 lead into the break.
With the second half underway Ashfield continued where they left off and almost levelled the scores but the visitors defence was simply too strong.
With the second half reaching the midway point, Kenilworth began to show their dominance once more, spending a sustained period in Ashfield territory. Replacement winger Patricia McMahon narrowly missed out on two tries with the Ashfield defence forcing her into touch, while prop Annie Rankin also had a try disallowed.
The final twenty minutes of the match were nerve-wracking but Kenilworth's pack had been impressive at both the set-piece and breakdown throughout the contest.
The forwards' strong display gave the visitors a good attacking platform during the entirety of the match, and the decisive try duly came with just 10 minutes to play. Kenilworth centre Flic Baldwin was on hand on the left to finish off a well worked attacking move from the backs to secure an impressive 10-0 victory for her side.
The fourth round fixtures in the Junior Cup will take place in February.
