Worcestershire County League

Summary of results Saturday 11th June 2016

Division one 1st XIs, leaders Colwall retained their position with a complete annihilation of division one “newboys” Cookley who got a harsh wake-up call in being rushed out for 48 in reply to Colwall’s 242-9. Nomads returned to winning ways with a straightforward home win against 11th placed Belbroughton and they are second, 12 behind the leaders and 12 in front of third placed Hagley who lost at home to Burghill.

So Burghill are now 4th, 6 points adrift of Hagley and with an 11 points cushion above Cookley. Stourport, the other promoted side are in 6th place on 94 points after they crushed 10th placed Droitwich, who were 37 all out.

In the other two matches, Worcester beat Oldswinford to lead mid-table sides, Pedmore won their second match in succession at Bewdley.

Next week, Colwall visit 3rd placed Hagley and Nomads are at Cookley while Burghill entertain Stourport.

In Division two 1st XIs, the leaders Redditch were becalmed as their game with Worcester Dominies was a victim of the overnight rain so the chasing pack had a chance to close the gap by 15 points which Chaddesley, Feckenham, Coombs Wood and Evesham all took.

So Redditch now head Chaddesley, for whom Bilal Hassan made 100 not out and Asif Iqbal 82 in their victory over Wormelow, by 22 points and Feckenham’s Danny Bloomer made 110 in his side’s win at home to Bromyard, despite Josh Von Rensberg’s 5-43, which keeps them 4 points behind Chaddesley in 3rd.

Evesham are 4th after winning at Enville, Coombs Wood are 5th after winning at Alvechurch, who continue to prop up the table and lastly Lye beat 11th placed Bredon by just 9 nine

Redditch visit Alvechurch next week, as Chaddesley are at Bromyard and Feckenham travel to Evesham.

In Division three 1st XIs, Bartestree thrashed 11th ranked Malvern and Harborne stay 7 points behind in 2nd following a comprehensive win over 10th placed Barnards Green.

A further 25 points back come the Old Vigornians who thumped Rushwick and then Ross who won at Avoncroft thanks to 82 from James Tiffen in reply to the home side’s Craig Hughes who struck 89 not out. Kempsey beat Netherton to ease relegation worries with their second win of the year and overtook Rushwick and Avoncroft in doing so.

The final match saw Himbleton beat Cleobury Mortimer, still firmly bottom and next week the leaders, Bartestree must defend their 7 points lead at home to 2nd placed Harborne whilst Old Vigornians go to Avoncroft and Ross play at Barnards Green.

In Division four 1st XIs, the leaders, Martley marched on with a victory at Oldswinford thanks to 119 scored by Alex Basford. They lead Fiveways, at home to Bromsgrove in a rain delayed start by 17 points.

Fiveways themselves are 21 in front of Astwood Bank in third who moved there after a win over Kidderminster. Claverley took the unusual step of declaring at home to Halesowen after 35 overs after Graham Cull had scored 117 not out, but still had enough runs to bowl out Halesowen and win the match with one ball to spare, although of course the victory was assured by 38 runs!

Elsewhere Himley beat Stourport thanks to 91 not out from Tom Rhodes and these two clubs are now joint in sixth Alveley beat Hanley Castle to climb to 8th spot.

In a week’s time Martley visit Stourport, and Fiveways go to Himley.

In Division five 1st XIs, the merry go round of leadership changes again as Tenbury it is who take over to lead both Hallow and West Malvern by 5 points after beating second ranked West Malvern whilst Hallow were losing at home to Old Elizabethans.

Old Elizabethans have climbed to 4th place, 11 behind Hallow and West Malvern and 5 in front of Barnt Green who beat Stourbridge with 80 coming from the bat of Gus Mackay, including six sixes in an over!

Old Hill beat Enville and Redditch 3rds were idle, like both their 1sts and 4ths, as they were prevented from starting by rain at Droitwich

Next week the top six play one another as Tenbury host Barnt Green, West Malvern go to OEs and Hallow visit Old Hill.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the 2nd XIs, in Division one, the leaders, Nomads are still setting a cracking pace and after winning at Belbroughton, now have a 49 points cushion above Hagley who won at Netherton and leapfrogged above Stourport  who slipped up at home to Redditch, losing by a mere 7 runs with all overs bowled and one wicket left. For Redditch’s only game (out of 4) played on the day, Ollie Mason scored 94.

Worcester are one point behind Stourport (and 8 behind Hagley) following their win at Coombs Wood which featured 100 from Andy Fletcher and then come Colwall who won a high scoring game at Evesham chasing down 300 in the process.

The final match saw Matt Cowdrey, usual 1st XI star from Bewdley, drop to the 2nds with good effect as he cracked 127 not out (more than his former 1st XI friends made in their whole innings) and steered his side to a total far in excess of Pedmore’s reach. Next week Nomads entertain Evesham and Hagley are at Colwall.

In Division two, Feckenham scored a whopping 404-4 against former leaders Bromyard who replied with a game 197 all out. For the leaders, Andy kings made 125 not out and Nick Reddish 84.

Second placed Harborne remain within a win after they beat Wormelow and Enville are 4th, 10 points behind Bromyard after a win at Cookley despite Mike Wood making 81 not out for the home team.

Lye beat Burghill thanks to a fine all-round performance from Mohsin Arshad who made 65 and took 5-25 for his side and a first win for Oldswinford moved further ahead of Avoncroft as they kept their winless opponents to the foot of the table.

The match at Rushwick against Droitwich was abandoned without a ball being bowled and next week Feckenham are at home to Cookley and Harborne host Bromyard.

In Division three 2nds, Chaddesley Corbett lost for the first time, slipping up at Alveley but little damage was done to their impressive lead as Bromsgrove, winners at home to former second placed Fiveways Old Edwardians have taken over in that position by one point.

In fourth, 26 more points back from Fiveways (and 46 adrift of Chaddesley) come Dominies who were able to record a third victory of the season at home to Old Vigornians who they overtook.

Alvechurch beat Kidderminster who now sink to the bottom as Kempsey rose one point above them by virtue of the 5 points for their match with Bredon being a wash out. Next week, Chaddesley will hope to return to form at home to Bartestree whilst Bromsgrove are at Claverley and Fiveways entertain Kempsey.

Division four 2nds leaders Himbleton had no match and so Astwood Bank have closed the gap at the top to 12 points after winning at Ross on Wye. Halesowen thrashed Malvern and are 3rd, 5 points behind Astwood Bank and then come Stourport who beat Himley.

The final two matches saw Barnards Green beat Hanley and Martley beat Oldswinford.

Next up, Himbleton host Himley and Astwood are at Oldswinford.

Division five 2nd XIs leaders Hallow lost to Old Elizabethans who now draw alongside them at the top, 15 points in front of West Malvern who beat Tenbury and 2 further back are Barnt Green despite them losing to Stourbridge. No more games to report as Old Hill vs Enville and Redditch vs Droitwich both failed to start.

Next week Hallow and Old Elizabethans play the bottom two, Old Hill and West Malvern respectively.

In the One team section, Division six leaders Harvington beat second placed Harborne with Marcus Humpston scoring 100 and despite Harborne’s Raja Kamboj replying with 108 of his own.

Pershore have now jumped to second after beating Ombersley, Romsley beat Highley thanks to 84 not out scored by Steve Randall and Nomads lost at home to Birlingham who are now 4th, 38 points behind the leaders. Next week Harvington visit Ombersley and Pershore visit Romsley.

Division seven north leaders Cookley slipped up, losing at home to Belbroughton for whom Will King made 88 not out, so Stone are back on top after they beat Harborne. Stone have 104 points, Harborne 99 and Belbroughton 93.

In the other match played, Romsley beat Netherton and next week Stone take a break so Cookley and Belbroughton can overtake them if they can beat Coombs Wood and Netherton.

Division seven south’s programme was affected by the weather with Bredon’s match with Bartestree called off. However, that was enough for Kidderminster and Ombersley Taverners to strengthen their joint lead with victories over Evesham and Bewdley respectively and for Worcester to beat Bromyard to maintain their own unbeaten challenge.

Kidderminster and Ombersley Taverners have 89 points two ahead of Worcester and next week, at last, the top four meet as Ombersley entertain Worcester at picturesque Broadwas and Kidderminster visit 4th placed Bartestree.

In the Midweek Knockout Cups, we now have finalists for both 1sts and 2nds finals on Mondays 20th and 27th June respectively at Kidderminster. In the 1st XI, Worcester Nomads’ opponents will be Belbroughton who beat Hagley and in the 2nds’ semi-finals Nomads beat Hagley and Bewdley beat Enville so the winners meet on 27th.

In the Carter Cup, Claverley beat Highley and will play the winners of the other semi-final between Kemspey and Old Vigornians at Kidderminster on Monday 4th July.
