The harvest is in, the trees show their first tint of brown and both teams are assured of middle table safety – Leamington III’s visit to Broadway was very much a “match in autumn”, amidst the beauties of the Cotswold Hills.

Frequently “taking the aerial route” to cope with the erratic bounce and exploit the short boundaries, James Cowan (56) and George Tedstone (25) took Leamington to 79-1 in only the 18th. over.  But after Tedstone and Salmon had both been stumped in successive deliveries, the only other significant contribution was from David Hawkes (38).  Wickets fell regularly as the young Leamington players were unable to provide much support and the innings eventually subsided from 162-6 to 175 all out.  The Leamington bowlers took wickets at regular intervals during the Broadway reply and when Sellars snared the dangerous Powell they had reduced their hosts to 101-7.  However, this brought skipper Clements to the wicket and with sensible support he slowly chipped-away at the target whilst losing two more wickets.  His dismissal for 26 closed the innings at 143, leaving Leamington 32 run winners.
