Leamington III (212-3) beat Exhall & Wixford (211-9) by 7 wkts

An authoritative 122 not out by David Hawkes, mixing watchful defence with powerful scoring shots, brought Leamington a most welcome first win of the season.

Visitors Exhall & Wixford had got their innings off to a rapid start and by the end of the tenth over Morris (30), Smith (26) and Kerby (45) had taken to score to 75-1.

For the eleventh over Jimmy Gethins (5-37) joined the attack and immediately took the first of his wickets. Following his lead the Leamington bowlers steadily regained control and wickets fell at regular intervals to take the visitors to 135 – 8.  At this point Perry (13) joined Hollands (50*) in a thoughtfully constructed partnership of 51, which lead to a final total of 211-9.

Hawkes and Tom Mackrill (44) got the Leamington reply off to a brisk start and at the 22-over drinks interval the score stood at 118-0.  The fall of three quick wickets brought Gethins back to the crease to complete his day’s work.

He careful worked the singles to keep Hawkes on strike, and the latter plundered the Exhall attack to bring the final 80 runs in just 9 overs and three balls.
