Premier Division, Saturday, 30th. July, 2016

A seriously depleted Leamington side were swept away by an exuberant Alcester team.  The visitors batted first and lost two early wickets to Dan McCarthy.  This brought Shuttleworth (79) in to join opener Pilkington (56) and the pair began their 116 runs partnership ensuring that their lofted shots always found on open space to increasingly frustrate the Leamington attack.  After Pilkington eventually lofted a shot in to a safe pair of hands, Shuttleworth worked with a succession of partners to ease the score to 221-7.

Leamington needed a good start if they were to mount a serious challenge but within six overs they had been reduced to 14-4.  Thereafter, the innings limped along with only skipper David Lord (25) making any impact.  Richard Layton (3-28) and Tim Jackson (4-25) were Alcester’s leading bowlers.

This win provides a welcome boost for Alcester in their battle against relegation.  Having been bowled out for less than 100 twice in successive weeks, Leamington will now have to work hard to preserve their Premier Division status.

Leamington III 3 pts, Alcester & RP 22 pts.
