For their first ever game in the Cotswold Hills League's Premier Division, Leamington III visited regular title challengers, Wellesbourne.

The step-up in level was illustrated as early as the third over when Rob Ainscow's full-face, low cover drive was snapped-up inches from the ground.

Thereafter, wickets fell steadily, aided by some ambitious shots.  The only significant partnership was 38 for the fifth wicket between Sam Bishop (20)and Tom Mackrill (19).  Opener, Dan Clarkson contributed 21.

Leamington's attempt to make their total, of 85, competitive got off to a disastarous start as the first four overs yielded 34 runs. Of the 57 runs that Wellesbourne scored for their first three wickets, barely half came from the bat.

The introduction of Jagdeep Khurana (5,4-3-8-3) slowed the run chase, dismissing top scoring Gary Maynard (21) in his first over.  Leamington then made Wellesbourne work hard for the last twenty runs, taking four further wickets in the process.
