Sunday 27th November and the lads made the short trip to Stourport for their first ever match against this local club. Unfortunately, the home side were 3 players short of a full squad so in the true spirit of Rugby we volunteered 3 of our own to make up the numbers and at 11am we kicked off.

Following on from their recent consistently high form the Old Hales squad made an immediate impact, working the ball out the line and taking it deep into the Stourport half. Four minutes in and Louis Prosser had run in the first try of the game.

Stourport were undeterred and played well, they had a brave pack that ran the ball into a strong Old Hales defensive line and their backs showed some pace, but they did make some handling errors and Old Hales were able to secure turnover ball again and again. This and Old Hales superior pace became a pattern of the game and in spite of our own Lewis Richards (playing for Stourport) fearlessly tackling Aiden Wilbey, Old Halesonians were able to build up a substantial lead as first Aiden Wilbey and then Alessi Knight, Jack Law, Oscar Crowcombe, Will Hymer and Jacob Saul took the tally at half time to an impressive Stourport 0 – 53 Old Halesonians.

In the second half Mike Essex, one of our forwards joined the Stourport squad and got his wish to experience life on the wing. Old Hales continued some very impressive play, but Mike Essex turned the tables as he “sprinted” down the wing to secure Stourports first and only try of the game.

Stourport never gave up and adapted their play to capitalise on their strengths, but all without avail. Jacob Saul showed fantastic pace and was rewarded with a couple more impressive tries, Tom King and Jack Law were gaining points from the conversion kicks, Will Ford discovered that he could use his size and speed to great effect in driving the opposition off in the ruck and Charlie Adams made a super run to score an impressive try. The final score, 5 - 87 is less important than the way both sides played, True Grit from Stourport and a fluid and impressive game from the Old Halesonians u16’S squad.
