OLD Northamptonians, former finalists in the National Colts Cup, have been drawn at home to Market Harborough in the third round of this season’s competition.

Old Northamptonians, who were beaten by Bedford Blues in the 2066 final and by Richmond in the 2010 National Colts Plate final, followed up a crushing first round victory over Newark with a 32-10 win over Paviors.

They will now host Market Harborough, who beat Dunstablians 26-0, in the third round which is scheduled to be playedby the weekend of November 23/24.

The National Colts Cup was introduced in the 1997/98 season as part of the East Midlands RU’s centenary celebrations. The Plate competition, for sides beaten in rounds one to three of the cup, was introduced two years later.

Both competitions are still organised by East Midlands and have continued to grow in strength and popularity. Originally competitions for Under 19 teams from clubs across the county they are now contested by Under 18 teams.
