Top referee Nigel Owens will be the guest speaker at a dinner which will kickstart Woodrush’s 50th anniversary celebrations on August 25.

The Welshman took charge of last year’s Rugby World Cup final and as well as being one of the world’s best referees, Owens has also established a reputation as one of Britain’s leading after-dinner speakers.

All tickets for the Woodrush dinner, which will be held in the Midlands Three West (South) club’s clubhouse at Forhill were sold out within hours of going on sale.

The dinner marks a busy year of celebrations for Woodrush who were formed by old boys of Woodrush High School in 1966. The first match, a defeat by Redditch, was played on October 29 that year.

Woodrush initially played at the school and later moved to Wythall Community Association in Silver Street.

The current ground at Forhill was purchased and developed in 1977 with further developments following over the subsequent 39 years.
