North Midlands’ National Under-20 Championship campaign ended with a 29-17 defeat by defending champions Yorkshire at Thornensians RFC in today’s quarter-final.

North Midlands battled hard to restrict Yorkshire to a 10-0 lead at the interval but they were then undone by three tries in the third quarter.

Yorkshire used their heavy pack to devastating effect to muscle over from three driving mauls which opened up a 29-0 lead and effectively secured their place in the semi-finals.

It would have been easy for North Midlands to have capitulated after that but they should plenty of character in adversity and ended the match the stronger side.

Bedwas and former Bromsgrove flanker Sam Montieri and Hereford wing Leon Parsons both crossed for tries which were improved by Matt Dight of Birmingham & Solihull with Dight also adding a penalty.
