Old Leamingtonians Ladies gave the Doncaster Demons hell in a triumphant 43-7 win, showing them up to be not as hot as they claim!

After a slow start, we warmed up to taking on the hardened Northerners and the first try was scored by new player Yolanda Sempere Padilla. Yoli has joined us from Spain and is sure to be a great asset to the team this season. Star fly-half Sarah “Doris” Munday successfully converted, getting the team off to a fantastic start.

The hard work put in at training was clearly seen in having a second jumper in the lineout, a well drilled scrum that we consistently dominated, and quick hands seeing the ball sent to the speedy and capable backs. Despite this, the gritty Northerners managed to slip one past the defence, leaving the home side with only a few final minutes of the first half to claw back victory. This challenge was snapped up by breakneck right winger Sasha Percival, who jetted past in her first try of the match with minutes to spare before the half-time whistle.

From then on the game could only get better, with Sasha Percival making her way across the pitch to score a hat trick of two more tries, one of which was spectacularly converted at a great distance from star kicker Danni Benge. Several new and returning players got put through their paces, and new OL Sophie “Woody” Wood was carried off like a hero after twisting her knee following some excellent passes.

In a display of typical OLs teamwork, Sarah “Doris” Munday hammered the ball across the pitch before smoothly passing to prop Claire "Irish" Byrne, who did the forwards proud with another try. For a brilliant conclusion, the final try was scored by fresh faced left winger Tash Barnes in her first ever game for OLs. The excellent score put us at the top of the Women’s Nation Championships Midlands league, and after putting the Demons through a baptism of fire we’ve shown we deserve to be there!
