Old Leamingtonians Under 18s came from behind to salvage a draw at home to Towcestrians in a feisty friendly on Saturday.

Tows made a strong start with their classy scrum-half bossing the game. He scored two quick tries, both converted, as the penalty count grew against OLs. The home team grew into the match however, and got on the board as Alex Witchell powered over to score; improving the try with a successful conversion. This galvanised OLs and they attacked again allowing Witchell to add a second try. Following a serious knee injury to a Tows player, the match was shifted to an adjacent pitch. The delay seemed to take the steam out of OLs, and Tows moved further ahead as their scrum-half completed his hat-trick.

OLs discipline had now improved and with the set-piece dominant, it was Tows who began to infringe. A series of quick taps with Matt Sawyer in the vanguard, saw OLs power into Tows 22, with Jordi Pocknell powering over to score. Kai Bailey’s conversion levelled the scores. Tows became frustrated as they had seen a winning position slip, compounded when the visitor’s hooker saw red, having planted a punch on the nose of OL’s counterpart Tom Griffin. OLs were unable to use the man advantage however as Tows hung on for a deserved 19 all draw.
