JASCAR sees Olly Turner take the runner up position in the British Championship

It was the two 2013 contenders Olly Turner #22 and last years JASCAR champion Corben Lord #24 who certainly set the pace in 2014. The half scale NASCAR are certainly getting a following displaying that these cars are the fastest junior series on the short ovals in the UK. Racing at tracks including Northampton, Buxton, Skegness, Birmingham , Lochelly and Cowdenbeath, these small but mighty cars with drivers as young as 8yrs can reach speeds of 50mph.

Turner, 12 yrs from Evesham who attends Bredon Middle School, driving the #22, grew in confidence throughout the year having gained valuable experience in 2013 as the rookie driver. Along with Corben Lord a school year older and seasoned racer of 5 years in other formulas too, the two boys raised the bar and gave new drivers a new level to aim for. It was experienced that kept the lads ahead of the overall points for the championships.

Being the more seasoned drivers, grids were started with a handicap of up to a lap or two down for Turner and Lord, having to battle through the pack for the points.

The Scottish championship in July, in mix conditions is where Turner was noticed. Exhibiting quick reactions and pace plus  clear liking for the track, he pushed  Lord to his limit and with plucky determination and only just conceded for first, after a restart due to an incident on the track which bought the racers together again with only 2 laps to go. Over two days of racing a pleasing result of 2 nd overall.

This story continued throughout the summer over 14 meetings, Turner having to race hard to overcome the handicaps and find new lines and skills to get through the ever increasing speed of the other drivers and their cars. A few disappointing 3rd and 4thplaces featured at some meetings but gaining enough points to start 2nd on the grid at the final I Factor Championship round at Birmingham in November.  Clean, safe and consistent driving from Turner secured a worthy result of 2ndand culminating a fantastic year. Due to his calm and thoughtful driving style, Olly proved why he has been nominated as one of the Top 20 drivers in the UK.

The Down force Radio Young gun awards are taking votes now for these drivers in all formulas around the UK. Being selected as future talent in British Motorsport by fans and officials has been one of the highlights of the year for Olly. From his interviews and website posts it is clear he feels honoured and proud to have achieved this degree of recognition amongst his racing peers. A path into motor sport is where Turner feels his future lies. NASCAR or World Endurance will play to his strengths and passions. Inspired by his dad Alec, in motor sport and mum, Sara in Triathlon, Olly has full support from his family and sponsors that he can make it a reality.
