Old Leamingtonians Ladies RFC got back to winning ways this weekend, beating Old Newtonians Ladies 19 - 7.

Old Leams got off to a nervy start, and although they were giving it their all they were not able to make any progress. It was Old Newts who were able to score first, despite the best efforts of Old Leams to hold the ball up on the line.

After the restart Old Leams slowly made their way up the pitch, and although they couldn’t quite get into their stride, the ladies in blue and gold were at last able to get some points on the board. The ball went out to the backs and it was outside centre Shannon Lynch who got it over the line, with Dee Hardwick converting to put the half time score at 7 - 7 with everything to play for.

After half time Old Leams found another gear, piling the pressure on Old Newts and not even allowing them out of their own half. Old Leams eventually found a way through, with Captain Jen Vermeulen alert to the quick penalty, running it in and scoring. Another conversion for Hardwick put Old Leams firmly in the lead. A second try for Vermeulen was not long coming; Old Leams made excellent use of their backs to get the ball out to the wing, and Vermeulen dived for the line.

Old Newts never gave up, and the last few minutes of the game saw some strong defending from Old Leams to deny Old Newts another try.

The game finished 19 - 7 to Old Leams, and forward and back of the match were Lorna Holloway and Tash Blunt.
