Old Leamingtonians Ladies RFC went top of the league this weekend, beating Lutterworth 24 - 5 at home.

Old Leams started strongly, keeping the pressure on Lutterworth and camping out in their 22 for much of the first half. However, the Lutterworth defence was strong and it wasn’t until Old Leams number 10 Yoli Sempere broke through the line to score under the posts that Old Leams got their first points on the board. Her try was expertly converted by Danni Benge to take Old Leams into a 7-0 lead.

This was soon followed by Old Leams winning their line out and quickly getting the ball out to the backs. Outside centre and ‘back of the match’ Sam Smyth weaved her way round the Lutterworth players to score, and Benge converted once again.

After half time Lutterworth came back strong, taking little time to score in the corner. However, Old Leams didn’t allow the opposition back into the game.  The whole team upped their level, with a particularly notable performance from ‘forward of the match’ Kacie Walker. After an excellent scrum on the half way line the ball came to Tasha Barnes, who ran it all the way to the corner to extend Old Leams’ lead. A few minutes later Barnes repeated her heroics, this time scoring in the other corner, drawing the game to a close and giving Old Leams a 24 - 5 victory.
